Sometimes there is a problem when it comes to conversing via sms or any other forms of communications that involves electronic writing.
One of the problems I would like to describe is the interpretation made. You see, sometimes the receiver don’t actually interpret the way you expect them to. And it is a major problem when they interpret it negatively.
For example, when a certain opinion or personal thought which did not actually meant to hurt, attack or judge anyone is interpret as one, you couldn’t find any way out to solve it.
The least I could do is zip my mind shut (yes, “mind”) and block it from having thoughts that will lead to negative perceptions of others.
Zipping my mind will also means abstaining my hands from typing any defensive words. To be frank, there’s always the urge to fight back and stand up to what you believe in by stating what you actually meant to the receiver, but, come to think of it, no matter how hard you try to explain the real thing in the best manner possible, others who watch or read it (if it's on Facebook) would still think of it as an immature quarrel.
*Anyway, why bother too much, it's just Facebook, and my life does not revolves around it 24/7.*
*Anyway, why bother too much, it's just Facebook, and my life does not revolves around it 24/7.*
This problem happened just now. And one thing that keeps on ringing in my mind was this one part I read in a book. It mentioned about no matter how much you think that what you believe is totally right (without doubt) just keep it to yourself. Because telling a right thing requires the right time and a way of conveying it. And the way of conveying it includes knowing the receiver well. Maybe we don't really know them that well to know the right way of conveying things to them. Maybe sometimes choosing not to argue will lead you to be closer to the misunderstood receiver. Who knows right?
"Invite (all) to the way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious: for thy Lord knoweth best, who have strayed from His Path, and who receive guidance."
(An-Nahl:125)
Looking at the verse, arguing doesn't comes first. In doing da’wah and spreading the truth, debating is a way. But it is the last option on the list, as if it is a way used only when there is no other option left. Still, Allah gives us the condition, if we want to debate or argue : do it in the best way possible, meaning, don’t hurt others.
A hadith of the Prophet mentioned about someone who abstain himself from debating even though he is right, will be guaranteed by the Prophet with a house in the heaven.
A strong person is not the person who throws his adversaries to the ground. A strong person is the person who contains himself when he is angry."
(Al-Bukhari)
There is so much to learn from Prophet Muhammad.
May Allah gives us the strength to follow the right path and the rightful living taught by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)
